The Three C's
Creativity
For as long as I can remember, I have been doodling and drawing whatever intrigues me. This resulted in a long career as a scientific illustrator, where I learned to communicate through visualizations. An image can speak volumes and tell a story just as effectively as words.
Curiosity
Through visual communication, I have always had a curiosity about how things work. This curiosity has grown to include how things DON’T work and how I can make it better. I tend to feed my curiosity with continuous education, whether registering for a course just for fun and learning something new or sitting in front of the TV with a bag of Doritos watching a documentary on Netflix.
Cognition
The reason I have a tie-dye brain for a graphic logo on my LinkedIn profile?… I guess it’s only natural that creativity and curiosity lead to cognitive thinking. It’s all about understanding, analyzing, applying, evaluating and then creating. I strongly believe when it comes to design, focusing on the problem first is the key that will lead you to a solution… and then I go back and find three or four more from which I construct the final solution… It’s all about the process!
My Process
1. Identify
Start by identifying both the user needs and the client objectives.
3. Pain Points
Further explore more about user's needs, pain points and processes through research involving interviews, surveys, ethnographic studies, etc.
5. Wireframes
Begin to construct low-fidelity wireframes and interactive elements in early interface construction.
7. Iteration
Iterate design based on data obtained through research and testing.
2. Requirements
Collect and verify requirements and any known functional specifications through interviewing experts and stakeholders or conducting design sprints.
4. Brainstorm
Brainstorm and ideate about interaction design principles and information architecture.
6. Test
Test and validate the design, and collect data.
8. Communication
Communicate with developers and quality assurance people throughout the stages of product development when possible and relevant.
